Beware of BIL!

In our experience there are two major road blocks for a company to get a great web presence online. The first is that they don't know where to start. That's no problem because we do and Dynamic Webscapes can help you through it step-by-step.

The second is the harder problem to solve. We call it BIL Syndrome...

Since 1994

We started out with one mission - to provide corporate quality websites for reasonable prices.

That hasn't changed even if our history has shown that we must offer additional services beyond design and development.

One way or another, whether through contracting or full-time employment, Dynamic Webscapes has designed, developed and deployed corporate quality websites for 18 years.

What exactly does corporate quality design mean?

It is our way of saying that our web developers are professionals. We are veterans in the industry and have designed and developed custom, public Internet and private Intranet websites and web applications for large corporations - not just the little hot dog stand down the road.

We are distressed when we hear that someone we know just had their website built for $500.00 or maybe even worse - free. We are firm believers in TANSTAAFL. We have also seen first hand some of the web designs generated for that low, low price. Generally these websites fall into one of two categories: BIL Syndrome or Mass Produced.

BIL Syndrome websites are those created by a well-meaning friend or family member that is genuinely sincere when they offer their services. What they lack in experience they make up for in sincerity and price. This is such a common malady that we have a whole page dedicated to BIL Syndrome.

Mass Produced websites are most commonly targeted to consumers through their email inbox. These are free or low cost websites "guaranteed to earn money immediately." They are usually templates that allow the "developers" to simply plug your information into a pre-designed template.

Don't even get us started on the evils of SPAM. Just suffice it to say that if half of what was sold via SPAM worked as advertised... well, we've got some ocean-front property in Arizona you might be interested in.

That doesn't mean that a high quailty, professionally designed website absolutely can NOT be bought at such a low cost. Professional developers must start somewhere.

Pre-packaged Templates vs. Custom Website Design

Pre-packaged template?

In short, a template is a series of html files that are pre-packaged with various buttons and style sheets that may be quickly manipulated to create a basic web presence. These templates are available for public purchase and they are also available at any number of online hosts that can “get your website up in less than 60 minutes.”

Beware the web developer that offers custom website design that would have been better labeled “customized” website design. All this means is that they opened up their template files and dropped your company name in the company name spot, your phone number in the phone number spot, etc. So while they did start with a template what they offer back to you is a custom website. Custom why? Because they added your business name and now there is no other website like it… so it’s custom. While that statement does hang on the edge of truth, the reality is that there are many websites that have that exact look and feel. The only difference is the name at the top. That is the nature of template design.

Custom Website Design!

Dynamic Webscapes started before there were templates. Even before commercial web design software was available. In fact, we were part of the beta test team for Adobe Pagemill (the fore-runner of Adobe GoLive). Before universities started giving out degrees in web design, we were in the corporate trenches wowing marketing managers with our ability to create “those home page things.”

We still provide custom web design using skills honed in the field for 18 years. While we do have a very large bag of tricks that we use to present the best image for our clients, you won’t find a single template within it.

When contemplating how best to approach your foray into the relatively new online marketing field, think about how it might best be compared to print marketing. Which would more effectively present the most accurate image of your company? A flyer created in MS Word, printed out on your color inkjet printer (came free with your system right?) and left under the windshield wipers of the cars in your local supermarket…. Or... would a full-color professionally designed multi-paged annual report give you the extra edge you need to attract more business? Now how does that compare to template vs. custom website design?
